Sales of new homes decline 3.6%, surprising experts
New-home sales declined to a seasonally adjusted 402,000 in September, a 3.6% drop from the revised figures for August, the Commerce Department reported. September's sales were 7.8% below the number for the same month a year ago. Last month's drop was the first decline in sales of new single-family houses since March.
